Our Story

My family's military legacy spans generations, each with stories of the gear that kept them warm and comfortable. My grandfather, a WWII veteran, often spoke of the olive drab wool field jacket liners first issued in 1943, which provided crucial warmth during harsh European winters.

My uncles Joe and Richard,  Korean and Vietnam War veterans, introduced me to the "woobie" - the beloved poncho liner that became essential in the 1960s. They shared tales of its versatility in the jungle, serving as a sleeping bag liner, makeshift shelter, or warm shawl during long nights on watch. Their eyes would light up describing this simple item that became a trusted companion.

My cousin Carlos, a veteran of Desert Storm, the 2001 Iraq invasion and multiple trips during the War on terrorism, brought a more recent perspective. He emphasized how the woobie and field jacket liner remained crucial even in desert environments, providing warmth during cold nights and shade in scorching days.

In 2008, when I joined the U.S Army, I received my own field jacket liner and poncho liner (woobie) during my initial issue. As I held these items, I felt a connection to my family's military legacy. Throughout my service, including multiple combat  deployments to the middle east and both Afghanistan and Iraq, these items became as essential to me as they were to my relatives.

The woobie, in particular, lived up to its reputation, becoming my constant companion through countless training exercises all over the world, Airborne operations and the challenging conditions of each war zone. Whether in the Afghanistan mountains or Iraq's urban areas, it provided comfort and a touch of home.

Through my deployments, I came to understand deeply why this simple item had earned such affection from soldiers across generations. It was more than just equipment; it was a small comfort that linked me to the soldiers in my family who had relied on similar gear in conflicts past, from World War II to the War on Terror.

While the woobie holds a special place in military history, its appeal extends far beyond the battlefield. This versatile, comfortable item isn't limited to soldiers - it's something everyone can enjoy for warmth and comfort. With its rich legacy of providing solace in the toughest conditions, the woobie deserves recognition worldwide. Whether you've served in the military or not, the woobie's practicality and comfort make it a valuable addition to any home or outdoor adventure.
